I finally got around to designing my own tactical sling of my A5 and my Pro-Lite. I was surprised at how easy and inexpensive it was to make. The webbing and buckles are available from several online vendors. By making your own sling your can customize the sling to fit your marker setup and physical build. The best part is that the materials are very inexpensive. The total material cost is only about $5! |
Tools: Super Glue, utility knife, scissors, and cigarette lighter. |
The tac-sling consists of one long strap and two Velcro strap rings used to secure the marker. I recommend using 1 inch thick webbing and buckles. Start by sizing and cutting the two attachment rings, one for the front and one for the back. The rear strap ring works well on a CAR-type stock or around the RVA on a JCS folding stock. |
Prepare the cut ends of the strap rings by running the flame from a lighter back and forth. Once the edge material has begun to melt quickly pinch the end using the side of the light and a hard surface to shape the edge. Use the super glue to attach Velcro pieces to the ends. Try out the rings to make sure they fit and that the Velcro matches up, make changes as needed. |
The sling will be directly connected to the front ring but should be free to move through the back ring. After deciding where to glue the sling end, use a generous amount of super glue to attach the front ring. Don't forget to prep the webbing ends. |
Now all you have to do is put the remaining pieces together. Attach the front ring around the barrel or shroud. Run the sling back along the marker to where you plan on placing the rear strap ring. Attach the rear ring on top of the sling webbing. |
The rest is pretty self explanatory by looking closely at the pictures. The first buckle is used to adjust the sling size. The second buckle is used to limit the distance that the slider buckle can travel. The third buckle travels back and forth between the front strap ring and the second buckle as needed. |
If you don't have a milsim marker or you don't prefer the whole tac-sling you may want to consider a sling for carrying you marker in between games. It helps to be able to free you hands without setting down your marker. I use a simple adjustable loop that I wear across my chest with a quick disconnect for connecting the marker. The QD can be a Velcro strap, quick-snap fitting like on a back-pack, or some sort of clip...use your imagination. |
